Gang steals Dh3.28m cash from car in UAE, arrested in 24 hours

They reportedly borrowed their getaway vehicle from a friend.

A gang of five people who robbed money exchange employees of Dh3.28 million has been arrested in Ajman in less than 24 hours, police said.

The staff of a money exchange firm were in a car with the cash when the gang threatened them with sharp weapons, the Department of Criminal Investigation (CID) at the General Directorate of Ajman Police said on Twitter.

Lt-Col Ahmed Saeed Al Nuaimi, director of the CID, said they immediately launched a search as soon as they received the report and managed to track down the suspects, with the help of the Fujairah Police.

Three of the suspects are Arabs, one is a GCC national and another is Asian, the authorities said. They reportedly borrowed their getaway vehicle from a friend.

The investigation revealed that the money exchange employees were carrying the Dh3.28 million cash in a normal, civilian vehicle, which is a violation of the law on transporting money.
