DIFC announces Eid Al Fitr holidays

The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) on Thursday announced Eid Al Fitr holidays which is falling next week.

“On the occasion of Eid Al Fitr, we would like to inform you that the DIFC Authority offices will be closed on either Sunday, May 24, until Monday, May 25, or Sunday May 24, until Tuesday, May 26. The exact dates will depend on the sighting of the moon, which will be confirmed by an official announcement in the media,” the financial free zone said in notice sent out on Thursday.

Post Eid holidays, DIFC will revert back to its standard business hours from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

A moon sighting committee has been formed in the UAE to sight the Shawwal crescent. The decision, which was issued by Sultan bin Saeed Al Badi Al Dhaheri, Minister of Justice, said the committee will meet after the Maghrib prayers on Friday, May 22, Ramadan 29, to spot the crescent.

The holy month of Ramadan is expected to be a 30-day month this year.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, had said that Sunday, May 24, will mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal.

Additionally, he said that the crescent of Shawwal will occur on Friday, May 22, at 9.39pm, after sunset, and will be visible on Sunday, May 24, the beginning of Shawal, which makes Ramadan a 30-day month this year.
